City & Guilds Hair Professional Apprenticeship
Forresters is currently running a City & Guilds Apprenticeship for 16/17 year olds who are leaving school this year.
As a Forresters Apprentice, you can begin your training at age 16/17 and progress through your Level 2 over two years.
The Level 2 Hair Professional Standard course covers both the practical and theoretical aspects of hairdressing.
You will study your Apprenticeship by working in one of the eight Forresters hair salons where you will learn specific skills sets as part of the City & Guilds Hair Professional Standard curriculum.
On set days during the month the training team from Hair Academy South West will provide specific training instruction and assessment of your in-salon work modules. This is all done to help you achieve the curriculum milestones and to develop your skills in order.

Level 2 Hair Professional Standard – Year 1
Awarding body – City & Guilds
- Consultation
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
- Style and finish hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
- Colour and lighten hair using a range of techniques
- Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
- Creatively colour hair using a variety of techniques
Apprentices will also gain many other practical skills in hair styling, cutting and colouring. They will also cover units in Life Skills to encourage them to grow personally.
Assessment will be continuous and it is mandatory for students to exhibit competency in a range of different tasks. Vital skills will be assessed through portfolios and exams.
Level 2 Hair Professional Standard – Year 2

Having completed your Year 1 units you will progress into Year 2, where you will develop your learning and creativity further whilst preparing for your end-point assessment.
How You Qualify
Once you have completed your two years of training, you will expected to demonstrate your skills at your end-point assessment day.
On the day you will complete a range of practical hairdressing services on at least two models to industry standards and commercial timings.
The oral questioning part of the exam includes assessment of your consultation and communication skills, safe working practices and professionalism.
This qualifies you at Level 2 and the grades are Distinction, Pass or Fail.
Apprenticeship Entry Requirements
Grade 4 or above at GCSE English and Maths.
You must have a passion for Hairdressing and have a good school punctuality and attendance record. A smart, practical dress code will be required within the salons.
Please note: If a Grade 4 and above has not been achieved at GCSE Level in Maths and English, it might be possible to study for the required grade at functional skill level within the salons and alongside studying for your Apprenticeship.
