Wow! You helped us to raise over £22,000 at our Summer Garden Party!

summer garden party The Old Boot Inn team

Forresters and The Old Boot Inn joined forces to create a Summer Garden Party to remember and oh, what a night it was!

You could say, we totally smashed it, with a lot of help from you! Thank you so much to everyone who came along and for your generosity.

Apart from everyone having a fabulous evening together (with drinks, delicious eats, music & dancing, an auction and raffle) the sole aim of the Summer Garden Party event was to raise money for The Motor Neurone Disease Association via its local branch: Reading & West Berkshire MND Association

The MND Association is close to all of our hearts because a treasured member of the Forresters Pangbourne team, Maz Swann, has recently been diagnosed.

It’s been a shock for everyone, but we were able to do something positive by raising funds for the charity that’s helping Maz to live her life to the full. **

Andre & Rebecca from The Old Boot Inn at Stanford Dingley have personal experience of Motor Neurone Disease too as Andre’s sister Sharon lost her life to MND in April; in fact, the more friends and clients we talk to, the more we realise that this disease has touched so many.

After the Summer Garden Party…

We’ve set up a Local Giving page that makes it easy to donate online if you wish to carry on the good work.
We don’t have any specific targets but please know that any amount you can give will be greatly appreciated.

If you’re a UK taxpayer, it would be great if you could tick the Gift Aid box. Using Gift Aid means that for every pound you give, we get an extra 25 pence from HM Revenue and Customs, helping your donation go further.

Find out more about Motor Neurone Disease

If you’d like to learn more about Motor Neurone Disease, please have a look around this web site. It’s a very comprehensive source of information about all aspects of living with MND, help and support, and how to get involved in fundraising.

Raising Funds for Research – Everyone is doing their bit

The Old Boot Inn’s energetic and hospitable landlord Andre Claassen has a twin brother, Anton, who has decided to run some tough miles for the Motor Neurone Disease Association:

Anton explains in his April facebook post, “I’ve decided to run another marathon albeit this time for a very good cause! I will be running the Brighton Marathon on September 12th for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

For those of you who aren’t aware my eldest sister Sharon, who was only 64, lost a very brief 15 month battle with a very aggressive form of Motor Neurone Disease 2 weeks ago.
It really is an awful and debilitating disease, for sufferers and families, and unfortunately there is no cure at the moment. The funds I raise will help go towards research and also towards helping families affected by MND. I’m very aware that finances have been affected by Covid, so any donations large or small will be very much appreciated. I will be training and competing with my lovely sister Sharon very much in my thoughts and in my heart.”

A number of Forresters’ colleagues are planning to go skydiving to raise sponsorship money for the charity… this might be a bit of a bold move for most, but, no fear, there are masses of less adrenaline powered ways to raise a few pounds for the research fight against MND. Here are a few ideas if you feel like you would like to raise money your own way.

  • Coffee Morning and Cake Sale
  • Sponsored Walk, Run or Swim
  • Plant Sale
  • Garage Sale

Thank you from John & Jill Forrester, Lynne and the Forresters Pangbourne crew plus all of the Forresters Salon Teams who helped to make the Summer Garden Party a night to remember.
