50 years of hairdressing, thanks to you!
You may not know, but Forresters has been trading since 1971 which makes the business 5o years old this year. We are celebrating this milestone in the coming months and we look forward to sharing some good news and good times with you, our loyal clients.
We love what we do…
Jill and I met whilst we were both working on the P&O ships in the late 1960s. For hairdressers and beauticians, working on the cruise liners was a wonderful way to see the world, meet lots of different people and develop our skills.
Returning to the UK in 1971, we decided to open our own salon. We were married two weeks after we bought our first business! We simply loved making our clients look and feel fabulous. Of course, like any new venture, it was hard work but we were full of energy and aspirations for our future together. We were ambitious but, little did we know then that we’d be celebrating 50 years of hairdressing in 2021.
New beginnings and a family focused on the future
In 1973 our twins, Gemma and Stuart were born and they were often seen in their push chairs quite happily watching Mum and Dad at work. Something must have rubbed off on them even at that early age, as they both became hairdressers when they were old enough.
Forresters is a family business and this cohesive and intergenerational energy has kept us all focused on high standards and the success of our salons.
Gemma and Stuart’s input is vital to our business because they’re both so creative. They’re highly skilled technical trainers who together form the backbone of our salon group Training Programme.
Our expansion plans continued throughout the following years culminating in a group of salons with skilful and committed teams that we’re extremely proud of.
Find us in Abingdon, Caversham, Pangbourne, Reading, Thatcham, Tilehurst, Sonning Common and Wallingford.
We couldn’t have done any of it without YOU!
We hope that at least one of our eight hair salons is your favourite.
It’s so satisfying to meet clients of all generations in our salons and whose children and grandchildren like the way we do things. It’s been 50 years of making friends for us too, and for that, we feel extremely lucky.
Training is at our core
In the 50 years we’ve been hairdressing, Forresters has always focused on training home grown hairdressers. In fact, all of our current salon managers were Forresters apprentices.
Our Apprentice training programme provides young people with the skills to forge creative and established career paths within our group.
Looking forward to the next 50 years
Even though 2020 and this year so far has been hugely challenging, we’re actively recruiting Apprentices and Salon Stylists of all levels, to enable our business to flourish and progress into the next decade.
Our work force is talented, loyal and dedicated to the high standards that our clients expect. They were all so keen to get back to the salons to make their clients look good and feel good again, and your fantastic feedback has given everybody in the group a boost when they needed it most.
Jill and I thank you for your loyal custom across the years and we are looking forward to seeing you in the salons in Forresters 50th year.
Until then, keep well and let’s look forward to 2022.
With best wishes
John & Jill Forrester
