Trying to decide what colours look best on us can be a minefield and many of us don’t have a clue where to start. This is why so many women play it ‘safe’ and stick to black clothing. But contrary to popular belief, black doesn’t suit everybody. This seems obvious when you consider your hair’s most flattering tones. Few people actually choose jet black when deciding on a hair colour
Armed with this basic knowledge, you can begin to work out what colours suit you. Our colour guide will give you a clear idea of what shades for hair and make up will best flatter your individual colouring, giving you the confidence to branch out into shades you might not have previously considered
Using the colour guide to help you select the best colour for your new style - along with complementary make up shades - couldn’t be simpler. We each fit into one of four categories, or seasons. Each consists of a range of warm or cool tones that suit you, based on the typical colours and tones in your hair, eyes and skin
| Select which of the four seasons – Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter – best resembles your current look, based on the descriptions below | |
The page displayed will describe your season’s colours. You will see the most suitable shades for your hair, eyes, lips, skin and to wear |

Spring complexions are clear, bright and warm with yellow undertones. Spring people can vary significantly, with very pale or very dark skin and hair and skin can seem translucent in appearance
You have a healthy and often youthful look and will usually have pink cheeks and a tendency to blush

Summer complexions are usually light and can seem almost colourless
If you are a Summer person, you will notice that you never have a high colour. Instead, you have a soft, luminous pearl-like quality which harmonises with your muted appearance
Autumn complexions vary from light to very dark. Your colouring is rich and warm with a yellowy base. An Autumn glow has a fiery intensity which can lack contrast
Applying Autumn colours to Autumn hair and faces, evens out the complexion and brings it to life. Other seasons will look muddy if they wear your colours
Winter skin is clear and bright with cool undertones
The winter complexion can swing from light to dark but has no high colour or warmth. Winters have rose-pink tones. A Winter person suits black and is the only type able to wear it without suffering dark shadows under the eyes or around the chin area
